Tennessee Freshwater Pearl Farm and Museum

Cari Griffith

Located at Birdsong Resort and Marina, a 53-acre recreational complex on the Tennessee River's Kentucky Lake, the Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Farm is the only freshwater pearl culturing farm in America.

The freshwater pearl, the official State Gem of Tennessee, is rarely found naturally from mussels, but may be found growing in the waters of the Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Farm.

The museum details the past and present of pearl culturing in Tennessee. Visitors are treated to informative exhibits about freshwater pearl pioneer John Latendresse, who cultivated pearls at this site; farm tours, an incredible pearl jewelry showroom, a gift shop and more.

The farm and museum is located in Camden, West Tennessee, 9 miles north of Interstate 40 at Exit 133/Birdsong Exit.
