Hiwassee River at Reliance and HWY 30
ADA Accessibility Notes
Low to moderate accessibility. (Cane walking, motorized scooters, etc.)
One of the best places in Polk County to drive and enjoy is getting off Highway 411 in Delano and taking Highway 30 to Reliance. The road is curvy but good for even the most apprehensive mountain drivers.
Not long into the few mile trip, you get at rivers/mountain edge with the beautiful waterfalls and scenery.
There are multiple pull overs and picnic stops so you can enjoy the visit.
Along the way, the park service has well maintained restroom facilities in the many rest areas.
At the end of the trip you end up at the Hiwassee River and Reliance bridge. This area has incredible trout fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and beautiful sites.
It is well-worth the detour. The detour will take you about an hour if you want a quick view. Or consider stopping at a local store on the way before you take this route, and make a half a day out of this majestic detour.
