High Shoals Falls
These falls have a succession of five waterfalls and have an estimated total vertical drop of 300'. They are located in a 170 acre scenic area. The High Shoals Trail follows along High Shoals Creek to observation decks beside two of the five streams cascading in the High Shoals Scenic Area. This is a 2.5 mile round trip into falls and back to parking area - moderate in difficulty.
How to Get There
From Hiawassee, GA take Hwy 76 east though town, turn right onto Hwy 75 south toward Helen. Go past Hwy 180 turn off (Brasstown Bald) and watch for the High Shoals Falls sign on the left side of Hwy 75 south. Turn left onto FS Road 283 and go 1.5 miles to the High Shoals Falls parking area.
This is a gravel road and cars/trucks/suv's will need to cross a shallow creek. Caution is needed during heavy rains or after heavy rains for vehicles with low clearance.
Pet Friendly Notes
Dogs must be on leashes and please clean up after your pets.
Hiking year round and rain levels determine size of water flow over. Beautiful year round. Photography is also good in this area. Caution needed in winter months because of ice formation on man-made decking.
Hiking, photography, picnicking.
The hike is a perfect length for "part-time" hikers and moderate in difficulty. However, this area is well removed from commercial activity and provides quite relaxation opportunities as well.
