Clingmans Dome, the highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is the third highest east of the Mississippi. Atop the highest peak sits a tower from which visitors can enjoy views of the surrounding area, including on clear days, Mt. Mitchell (the highest peak in the East) over 70 miles away.
No pets are allowed on the Clingmans Dome Trail.
From the parking area, a steep half mile climb takes you to an observation tower. It also connects with the Appalachian Trail which offers multiple day hiking opportunities, as well as overnight excursions.
Clingmans Dome is only accessible from April 1 - November 30. This road is subject to closure due to inclement weather, especially during the shoulder seasons.
