Areas of Service and Expertise

Specializing in guided whitewater rafting trips on the class III & IV Ocoee River since 1978.

Types of Experiences and Trips Provided

The Ocoee River in southeast Tennessee is the most popular class IV whitewater river in America. The 10-mile Ocoee whitewater rafting area, located between Ocoee Dam No. 3 and the Caney Creek take-out, attracts more than 250,000 visitors each year. The river runs like a silver thread through the heart of the Cherokee National Forest, which also provides plenty of opportunities for camping, hiking, mountain biking, and a beautiful lake perfect for swimming or lounging.

The volatile nature of the Ocoee River generates miles of rapids and many opportunities for spectacular whitewater. Rafting takes place on two sections of the river called the "Upper" and the "Middle." Each section is about 5 miles of class III & IV rapids and takes about two hours to run (or 5 hours for the Full River trip, which includes lunch). The Upper Ocoee River includes the incredible whitewater race course created for the 1996 Olympics that were held in Atlanta, with such rapids as "Mikey's," "Slam Dunk," "Smiley Face," and the most popular "Godzilla" and "Humongous" which has even taken Olympic athletes for a spin. The Middle Ocoee River is the classic section that Cherokee Rafting has been running for over 33 years. The well known rapids include "Grumpy," "Broken Nose," "Slice and Dice," "Table Saw," and "Hell Hole" for an explosive finish.
