Appropriate for all ages

Each year, the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Haleyville host a festival to celebrate its heritage and to honor law enforcement and emergency personnel. Held the first weekend in June, the annual 9-1-1 Festival celebrates the town’s role in making the first 911 emergency call with all the makings of a free, family-friendly event including live music, activities for kids, a classic car show and much more, while honoring its police, fire, rescue, and emergency personnel.

In 1968, Alabama Speaker of the House Rankin Fite placed the first 911 emergency call from City Hall to U.S. Representative Tom Bevill at the city’s police station. The annual 9-1-1 Festival celebrates the history making moment with a free event. Festivalgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. All activities are held in downtown Haleyville and admission is free.
